18 DAYs Selous Udzungwa Ruaha Mikumi Kisampa
This Southern circuit safari to Selous Game Reserve, Udzungwa Mountains National Park,Ruaha National Park, Mikumi National Park & Kisampa-Saadani
Day 1: Drive from Dar Es Salaam - Selous Game Reserve
Pick up 08:20 am at the airport, and drive to the Selous (4-5 hrs).
You will take part in an afternoon boat safari along the mighty Rufiji River. Where you can see plenty of hippos, crocodiles and bird life. Overnight at the Selous Kinga Lodge All meals included.
Day 2: Selous Game Reserve
You will participate in walking safaris, game drives private in Selous Game Reserve and boating safaris, Africa’s largest wildlife sanctuary, with an area of 54.600kms – bigger than Denmark and 4 times the size of Serengeti!.
Selous has the world’s largest number of large game animals – elephant, buffalo, and rhino. It also contains wildebeest, eland, giraffe, waterbuck, zebra, impala, hippo, leopard and lion, not to mention over 350 species of birds. Dinner and overnight at the Selous Kinga Lodge. All meals included.
Day 3: Selous Game Reserve
After breakfast set off by 4×4 on game drive across the Selous Game Reserve with picnic lunch then dinner and overnight at Sable Mountain Lodge. All meals included.
Day 4: Selous Game Reserve
early morning foot safari looking for close encounters return to the camp for breakfast then relax at the lodge and later drive to the Maasai village for the visit and later back to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Sable Mountain Lodge. All meals included.
Day 5: Drive to Udzungwa Mountains National Park
after breakfast another game drive in Mikumi National Park then later transfer to Hondo Hondo Tented Camp, lunch on the way (provided by the camp from Mikumi). Afternoon walking tour around Mang’ula village and get a feeling of a typical Tanzanian day to day life. Back at camp before dinner enjoy watching the baboons from the spectacular bar while having a sundowner. Dinner and overnight at Udzungwa Forest Camp (Hondo Hondo).
Day 6-7: Hiking in Udzungwa - Sanje Waterfalls
after breakfast, drive to the park gate and start hiking into the superb primary forest to the base and then the top of the spectacular 180m Sanje Waterfall looking for primates on the way (Iringa Red Colobus and Sanje Mangabey). Swim in plunge pools, see endemic African Violets growing in the spray zones and have lunch in the forest on the top of the falls. Descend after enjoying superb views.
Drive back to the camp in the late evening for your hot dinner and spend the night at Udzungwa Forest Camp (Hondo Hondo). Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Day 8: Drive to Ruaha National Park (5-6 hours)
After breakfast, depart for Ruaha National Park, having lunch en-route.
By afternoon you will have reached the Tandala Tented Camp. There are many types of different birds, wild flowers, butterflies and trees that can be seen nearby.Dinner and overnight at Ruaha Hilltop Lodge. All meals included.
Day 9-11: Ruaha National Park
Two full days of game driving at Ruaha National Park, with picnic lunches. Ruaha has an area of 10,300 sq km, and is the second largest park, and second largest elephant sanctuary in Tanzania. The great Ruaha River that flows along its entire eastern border creates spectacular gorges and scenery, and features a large number of hippos and crocodiles. The wide variety of animals that inhabit the park include both Greater and Lesser Kudu, roan and sable antelope. Bird life is also rich, with over 370 species recorded. Dinner and overnight at Ruaha Hilltop Lodge. All meals included.
Day 12: Drive from Ruaha - Mikumi National Park (5-6 hours)
In the morning you will depart to Mikumi National Park while crossing through Northern Selous. Depends arrival time – afternoon game drive. Overnight in Camp Bastian
Day 13 & 14: Mikumi National Park
Two full days of game drives in the Mikumi National Park Overnight in Camp Bastian
Whilst on safari, you can see a rich variety of bird species, as well as large numbers of giraffe, buffalo and elephants. If you are lucky you may also be able to spot lions, leopards and African wild dogs. Likely to be seen animals include zebras, hippos, hartebeest, wildebeest, impala, warthog, eland and antelope
Day 15
Transfer by vehicle from Mikumi to the Wami River near Kiwangwa arriving in the late afternoon. Here you will be met and transferred across the river by canoe. On the other side you will be transferred by 4×4 to Kisampa Bush Retreat (adjacent to Saadani National Park). Settle in and enjoy sundowners watching the spectacular sunset. Maybe you will have elephants coming to the water hole down in the valley. Enjoy a dinner under the stars, then go for an evening night drive and experience the African bush at night. Overnight at Kisampa – Wami River Bush Retreat.
Day 16
Awake to bird-song and enjoy breakfast. Morning activities – bush walk, birding, bike riding or fishing. Lunch at camp. Afternoon canoe safari on the Wami River, featuring hippo, crocodiles and numerous fantastic birds – see the sunset from the Wami River. At camp enjoy dinner and relax by a fire under the stars and overnight at Kisampa – Wami River Bush Retreat.
Day 17
After an early breakfast you will be driven through the organic pineapple farm and the village of Matipwili into Saadani National Park. Saadani has a diverse population of mammals and birds. Elephant, leopard, lion, buffalo, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra and the rare Roosevelt sable can be seen here. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the beach. You will arrive back at Kisampa late afternoon. Dinner under the stars and overnight at Kisampa – Wami River Bush Retreat.
Day 18
After breakfast, transfer back to the Wami River where you will cross and rejoin your vehicle and transfer to Dar Es Salaam
