Best of Tanzania Lodge Safari and Zanzibar
Experience the highlights of Southern Tanzania on an impressive 4 night lodge safari in Selous & Mikumi. On Zanzibar you will spend 3 night carefree days at the Pongwe Beach Hotel, while enjoying the white sandy beaches of the island.
Day 1: Dar es Salaam - Selous Game Reserve
On this first day of your safari you will be picked from your hotel or Airport in Dar es salaam and start on your way to Selous Game Reserve. It is relatively far and you will have a picnic lunch en route or hot lunch at the lodge and arriving later in the afternoon you will proceed with your first activity of the safari which is a boat safari in the Rufiji River at Selous Game Reserve. Later in the afternoon retire back at your lodge / camp for dinner and overnight. Overnight at Selous River Camp. Lunch box and dinner included.
Day 2: Full day game drive at Selous Game Reserve
On the following day you will spend the days doing game drives in the plains of Selous Game Reserve. Selous Game Reserve is reputed to be best off the beaten track wildlife safari destination away from the crowds. The Game Reserve is the largest Game Reserve in Africa with its area being more than the size of Switzerland and is full of wild animals and birds’ species. Apart from the lions, leopards, giraffes, elephants, hippos, impala, hartebeests, pythons, elands, but it is the rare wild dogs that will most maze you. With a little bit of luck you will be able to see these rare incredible hunters of the African Wilderness. Unlike the Northern parts of Tanzania where animals and birds are more habituated, animals here are more timid. Selous Game Reserve has 350 different species of birds recorded. On one of these days you will be taken for a walking safari in Selous guided by an armed ranger. Overnight at Selous River Camp. All meals included
Day 3: Selous - Mikumi National Park
After breakfast at the lodge/camp we check out and proceed by crossing the north of Selous and drive to Mikumi National Park. On arrival we will go on our first game drive in Mikumi National Park until later in the afternoon when we drive to the lodge or tented camp for dinner and overnight. Mikumi National Park has relatively less developed infrastructure but that makes the park even better because that has helped in preserving the wilderness in its natural state for many years. There is an option of doing a walking safari guided by an armed ranger if you wish. Overnight at Stanley’s Kopje Camp. All meals included.
Day 4: Full day Mikumi National Park
Spend a full day with game drives around the Mikumi National Park with a packed lunch or do morning and afternoon game drives with a lunch break at the lodge/tented camp. Mikumi National Park is part of the larger Selous Ecosystem together with the Selous Game Reserve and harbors remarkable numbers of bird’s species and animals. Among the animals that can be spotted at Mikumi includes giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, impalas, warthogs, zebras, wildebeests, elands and many other antelopes. Apart from game drives in the park you can also go for a guided walking safari guided by an armed ranger. Overnight at Stanley’s Kopje Camp at Mikumi located outside the park. Lunch box and dinner included.
Day 5: Mikumi National Park – Zanzibar Island
Breakfast at the lodge or Camp then check out and drive to Mikumi airstrip for your flight to the Island of Zanzibar. Arriving at Zanzibar Airport you will be transferred to the Pongwe Beach Hotel. Dinner included.
Day 6-7: Zanzibar Beach
You will spend these two more days at your beach resort relaxing. You may choose from the various water sports and activities available or go for a sunset Dhow Cruise on one of the afternoons. Overnight at Pongwe Beach Hotel. Breakfast and dinner included.
Day 8: Zanzibar Airport - Departure.
Breakfast at the beach hotel in Zanzibar Island, then spend some time at your hotel (with check out time at 10.00 hrs), then transferred to the Zanzibar Airport for your flight back home.
