5 DAYS Selous & Mikumi from Zanzibar
The Selous Game Reserve is a protected area in southern Tanzania. It covers a total area of 50,000 km² and has additional buffer zones. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982 due to its wildlife diversity and undisturbed nature Mikumi is Tanzania’s fourth-largest national park. It’s also the most accessible from Dar es Salaam. With almost guaranteed wildlife sightings, it makes an ideal safari destination for those without much time.
DAY 1
Drive from Zanzibar – Selous Game Reserve
Take the first ferry from Zanzibar depart 07:00 am and pick up on arrival at the DAR ferry, and drive to the Selous (4 hrs). You will take part in an afternoon boat safari along the mighty Rufiji River. Where you can see plenty of hippos, crocodiles and bird life. Overnight at the Selous Tented Camp – lunch & dinner included
DAY 2
Walking Safari & Game Drive in Selous Game Reserve
You will participate in walking safaris and game drives private in Selous Game Reserve. Africa’s largest wildlife sanctuary, with an area of 54.600kms – bigger than Denmark and 4 times the size of Serengeti!.
Selous has the world’s largest number of large game animals – elephant, buffalo, and rhino. It also contains wildebeest, eland, giraffe, waterbuck, zebra, impala, hippo, leopard and lion, not to mention over 350 species of birds. Dinner and overnight at the Selous Tented Camp. All meals included.
DAY 3
Drive from Selous Game Reserve – Mikumi National Park
In the morning you will depart to Mikumi National Park while crossing through Northern Selous. Depending on arrival time – afternoon visit Maasai Village and learn their culture. Overnight in Camp Bastian Mikumi
DAY 4
Full day Safari in Mikumi National Park
Full day of game drives in Mikumi National Park Overnight in Camp Bastian Mikumi
Whilst on safari, you can see a rich variety of bird species, as well as large numbers of giraffe, buffalo and elephants. If you are lucky you may also be able to spot lions, leopards and African wild dogs. Likely to be seen animals include zebras, hippos, hartebeest, wildebeest, impala, warthog, eland and antelope
DAY 5
Morning game drive and later transfer to Dar Es Salaam to connect the 1930 flight back to Zanzibar – lunch box provided.
